Children under 14 can work as actors or performers if they have authorization from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The child's parent or legal guardian must submit an Application for Child Actor/Performer Authorization form. The TWC may issue an ID card that's valid until the child's 14th birthday.
Children between the ages of 14 and 18 need a certificate of age to work, unless they are employed by a parent or guardian. Employers can request a Certificate of Age form, which requires documentation like a birth certificate, recent photograph, and a parent, guardian, or custodian's signature.
Obtaining an ID Card and/or Certificate of Age form can take as little as a day or as long as a week, so if you are interested in your child working on the film/television/commercials, etc, please download the Registration For Minors Packet at the link below and start collecting the necessary documents and start the process ASAP! Note about Schooling on Set: When school is in session, your child must be tutored on set, AND hours of work are established by TWC. Once the parent and/or guardian have signed the minor affidavit (for all minors under 18) and saved as a PDF and you have obtained the minor's ID after having the Application for Child Actor/Performer Authorization form (children 14 and under) approved or the Certificate of Age form (children 14 - 17) approved, please save them as a jpeg, and then upload the documents below and you will be taken to the background application page via our EP Casting Portal website.
See the examples below for what the FORMS for each age group should look like:
