Children under 14 can work as actors or performers if they have authorization from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The child's parent or legal guardian must submit an Application for Child Actor/Performer Authorization form. The TWC may issue an ID card that's valid until the child's 14th birthday.
14 and under needs the Authorization Form completed and approved, and must have the ID from the TWC in order to work. 14 to 17 are only required to have the documentation needed from the I-9, however, we do recommend that children 14 and 15 obtain the Certificate of Age as an extra layer of protection to work on set. It is not mandatory, but a recommendation.
Obtaining an ID Card and/or Certificate of Age form can take as little as a day or as long as a week, so if you are interested in your child working on the film/television/commercials, etc, please see the links below on this page and start collecting the necessary documents and start the process ASAP! Note about Schooling: Hours of work are established by TWC, If the child works two consecutive days on set, tutoring will be required, and provided by the production.
HOURS: Children under 14 years of age, hours will be determined by production and state law.
HOURS: A child 14 or 15 years of age may not work more than eight hours in one day or more than 48 hours in one week. A child who is 14 or 15 years of age and is enrolled in a term of a public or private school may not work between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on a day that is followed by a school day or between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. on a day that is not followed by a school day. A child who is 14 or 15 years of age and is not enrolled in summer school may not work between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. on any day that school is recessed for the summer.
HOURS: A child 16 or 17 years of age has no restrictions on the number of hours or times of day they may work.
